  • On Hawaiian Ghosts and Legends

So, during dinner tonight, I was eating with some guy's from Ed's church.  It's great to meet the people with whom he's serving and so I tried to soak in some of the Hawaiian flavor.

The conversation turned to local legends and ghost stories.  There's the tree that you have to hug, and when you do, you'll be able to see the body hanging above you.  There's the hiking trail with more stairs on the way down than there are on the way up (but really, who'll count that much?).

And then they talked about the Menehune, the little people of Hawai'i.  Apparently, if you sleep with the window open, and with your feet facing the window, the menehune would grab you by the feet and either (a) drag you out, or (b) steal your soul through your feet, or something to that effect.

I was going to do it tonight as a matter of principle since I think stories are fun, but silly.  Except.  I'm an insomniac and I can't actually fall asleep.  Oh well.

On the other hand, I really can't do it anyways right now because whenever I open the window, the rain splashes in.  Now that's a horror story.  Shawn can't sleep cause he's too hot.  Shawn can't open the window because the rain gets in.  Poor Shawn.  Suffering in Hawai'i.  (Not really.)
